Website Suggestions and Ideas
Exactly what the topic title says. Is there any sort of section you might want added? Found a typo or a bug? Post em here.
Oh yeah, no spam, or it will get deleted.

Re: Website Suggestions and Ideas
I think the 32 rules is a bit long and can be compressed into a shorter, more concise and generalized set of rules. Not saying that there's anything wrong with them, but some are repetitive and can easily be abridged or zipped into one rule. For example, 14 and 24 can be mashed together into a "no advertising rule" or 4 and 22 can be compressed into a "no spamming" rule. I just think it'll be easier to adhere to and enforce a shorter set of forum laws than a longer one.
Edit: I also noticed that there isn't a section to post up writing (prose, fanfics, poetry etc.).
Edit 2: And just as a input on the chatbox idea of KyouMizune above, I've noticed that when you have a chatbox on a forum, moderation becomes difficult since chats, unlike, forum posts, move quickly and spamming generally become a big issue within them. Granted, it's a great way for user to interact, but it's rather redundant to have a quick posting widget on a site that is built on a forum hierarchy of threads and posts, especially one equipped with a PM functionality and a "Spam" section. It's fine for blogs and video streaming sites, but less relevant on network boards in general.
But that's just me and my ramblings...I'll shut up now. -.-

Okay, I officially love you now, no homo. But your reason is generally why we don't have a chatbox. Now a section for fanfics and such, I'll get around to it later today.
Edit: Fanfic/writing section made
Re: Website Suggestions and Ideas

Re: Website Suggestions and Ideas
The symbols for 'locked' and 'no new posts' should be made different.
I just spent about five minutes trying to figure out why the banner contest thread was locked, before realizing there were just no new posts.
Also, darkening the default font color would make it a little easier for me to read the posts here, I just find that there's less contrast than I'm used to.

You can go ahead and make a topic for this, but a whole section would be too unorganized and suchplayamount wrote:um can there be a just for laughs section? where we can just post things that make us laugh like jokes and videos @_@ not like the spam section.
The symbol for locked and the no new posts (popular) are defaults of the theme. If someone is willing to go ahead and make something for the popular topics with no new posts, I can go ahead and put it in.espeon977 wrote:The symbols for 'locked' and 'no new posts' should be made different.

That gray is quite too light for such a colored beigy background.

I've been checking in the admin panel for a change in font colour, and as soon as I find it (and stop playing L4D2) then I'll make it darkerakuawind wrote:+1 mate.espeon977 wrote:Also, darkening the default font color would make it a little easier for me to read the posts here, I just find that there's less contrast than I'm used to.

The icon issue bothered me too… Espeon, you're not the only one who spent minutes until finding out the topic wasn't lock.
@JinSeng, If all you need is an icon, here is it:
(and get a refund for L4D2, your fifty bucks aren't worthy a sequel :S)

Anyways both are changed
Thanks Mii for saving me the effort to find the text colour. It should be better now
Re: Website Suggestions and Ideas
hehe... not sure if this was discussed yet but here it goes. This one is a bit of a stupid request but I thought we could have well more "fun-ish" smilies? [XD]. Since we're all [or at least I think so] are all otaku's, we should have smilies that resemble us more, or er... more fun to use if that's the case.
So I thought that maybe we could use MSN smilies? It's a lot of work to change so I understand if you don't want to

Don't like those? Here are more smiley you can choose from. I guess if no one can choose, you can put a poll up ^_^

Re: Website Suggestions and Ideas
More smilies for sure. And there's a crack in the background... I'm sorry. Let's make a new theme. :D Or background for the forums. >>

ooh ooh ooh I make thosechou. wrote:More smilies for sure.
We should add Shifty Steve.
Re: Website Suggestions and Ideas
I noticed the crack in the background also. It came with the theme so I was too lazy to fix it. I can get around to fixing it later though.chou. wrote:More smilies for sure. And there's a crack in the background... I'm sorry. Let's make a new theme. :D Or background for the forums. >>
About smileys, I prefer not to have many large moving ones because they are more likely to be spammed and become very annoying. Stuff like the shifty steve is good. I'll add it in now actually.

The problem with those is that they can cause pages to load slowly (especially people without high-speed internet). They can also interrupt scripts since they are generally larger, compressed images.
Does this forum have an internally set limit on how many smiles that can be used? Most forums tend to limit them to 10 icons per post to reduce lag and to prevent smilie spam.
Edit: Also, on most forums, the posts made in the "Spam" or "Random" section usually are not counted on the user's post count. This is primarily to reduce topics that become filled with spam and flaming. When users want to reach a high post count, some do it by having legitimate conversations and by being active, which it generally what I'm seeing here so that's good. But as a forum gets larger and more popular, there will be more and more trolls coming to the site to stir up trouble and they can take advantage of the spam section to increase their post count.
I also bring this up being I get a bit annoyed when I see comments in the spam section like "lol" and "cool," which don't contribute to the conversation at all. Not pointing any fingers, but most of us (including myself) are guilty of having at least one of those moments. I'm not saying that there's any problem with the spam section, it's just that I can foresee some kind of abuse occurring in the future. Just something to consider.

I'm not entirely sure on the smiley limit but I'll work on that.Zero wrote:MorbidGlasses wrote:http://www.anikaos.com/0040-onion_msn_smileys.html

About the spam section, I've been trying to find that option to disable the rise of post count for it but with no success at the moment. I also plan on doing this for Word Games to encourage posting in other sections.
Re: Website Suggestions and Ideas
I don't think that there is a option for disable the rise of post count ?
But maybe ... there is a " Points System " and with this, you can add or remove points per message or per subject for each section. You can change the name of " Points system " by posts, and then hide the post count ...
Well, it's hard to understand. '__'

Re: Website Suggestions and Ideas
I brought up the idea on the Forumotion forum site and as far as I know, the function to disable post count in not available. (No word on if they will add that function or not...)
I know forum hosts like InvisionFree supports post count disabling, but I guess Forumotion doesn't. Oh well.
The Points system brought up by Mii is a good idea, I found a thread for it on the host's site. The Points System The points given for posting in the game and spam section can be lowered as far as zero and points for posting the General Discussion can be raised.

I don't know if it already been suggseted but I think we should have profile descriptions? I think it's pretty wierd that we don't have that.
Also when pressing the profile button I would like to come to my profile and if I want to edit my profile I can press a edit profile button.
And there's a banner contest, so mabye we should have a background contest to, like chritsmas themed

In all seriousness, Rasta doesn't represent singing in any way, which is what this whole forum is generally about. So I'm going to have to say no for that.
