Durarara!!

Why is this anime so popular.. is it because of the characters?...
because to me the story isn't really interresting.. though I enjoyed watching the episodes...

I am a BIGGGG FAN OF DURARARA. Trying to read the light novels but ending up only on Volume 5 'cause the other Volumes aren't translated yet.

I think really it's a mix of both story and characters that's really makes Durarara interesting.

I'll agree--and hate to admit--that some of the plotlines are a bit disappointing and executed poorly (Well, I guess I only mean the anime and its abrupt ending, wooweee...) and the whole "switching between character's perspectives" is still a bit confusing for me to follow. However, the genre of Durarara is vast, from comedy to psychological horror to action and supernatural (I personally enjoy those genres by the way).

I think it's how the anime/light novels show how all the main characters react to the certain scenario--aka, switching between character's perspectives--that ironically catches my eye, especially if they're characters that you like, as well as their own back-stories. There's a huge cast of characters, and most of them I really like, so that's a huge plus for me when watching the anime or reading the light novels.

So in short, it's how wide and open-ended Durarara is and how it could attract different kinds of people. Or, at least that's my opinion.

@junie: I'm pretty sure most people watch Durarara because it has a pretty awesome cast. Ryogoh Narita's trademark is having a huge huuuuge cast of people who are all memorable in their own way. I mean, this show has like 20+ main characters and I remembered almost all of their names. (hurr hurr this happened in Baccano as well buuuut anyways *whistles*)

As for the story, it's not going to be everyone's cup of tea, granted, but I do think that whichever story they used for the last parts of the animes was probably weak in the source material and weak in execution. The light novels still continue on thought, so I'd say to try those out for more plot. XD

That's why Durarara needs another season for the anime. お願い！！

I think that there's going to have another Durarara special episode.. in 23 of february 2011.. and there will be also the twin sisters of izaya.. I'm so excited to watch an episode with those two!!

no they did not appear in any of the 24 episodes... I'm saying that they WILL appear in Durarara!! special 2..
