Genderbent Singing~
So, everyone knows the sexiest thing nowadays is singers who can sing like either gender, and I'm sure we've all tried it at some point. Let's face it, there's something wonderful about being able to sing duets with yourself, and not sounding the same. (unless you have a Sakine16 self too? o.o)
Anyways, anyone have any suggestions on widening your vocal range? Or, do you want to show us your other voice? ^.^
I'd personally love some hints on being able to sing a few notes lower =A= The only things I know is that dairy products tend to clog your throat up, and citrus tends to get rid of mucus in your throat.

Re: Genderbent Singing~
O_O I have sang several girls' songs with a lower pitch. does this considered genderbend? O_O
Anyway, I do have several voices XD maybe I'll try joining them on my next dub (maybe). XD

Re: Genderbent Singing~
Genderbent? I'm sure I can sing like a guy depending on the range with the song itself like this one:
You can pretty much tell where my notes just turn into whispers because I can't reach those notes lllOTL But yeah! It's not hard for me since my voice is like alto......
Alright, so for tips........... Aside from practising, there's nothing from me lllOTL I'm sorry!!

Re: Genderbent Singing~
hmmm I've encountered problems when trying to Genderbend-sing..
you have to be careful of sounding "bored".
Lower notes are lower frequency, and usually in a choir the ratio between altos to sopranos is 2:1 (ie, the volume of lower notes is quieter to the human ear, so the emotion that you put into it sometimes sounds non-existent).
I've also heard that pitching works well, if you know how to pitch it properly.
i think pitching works wonders, but only if it's used minimally.
From what i've heard, sing in a somewhat manlier tone (for girls singing guys) but in a semitone higher than the original key. This way you get the masculinity behind the voice without sacrificing authenticity.
Not sure if this actually works, but there are lots of disasters when it comes to pitching

Re: Genderbent Singing~
I can sing low notes to high notes, and everything in between. Of course, being a girl, there are some low notes I just can't reach.... ^^;

Re: Genderbent Singing~
my advice is to deepen your yawning voice...you know,,when you yawn naturally, without forcing your yawn with your throat, you actually get your low voice,....my advice is to deepen it..i guess...if i think of another one, i'll modify this

Re: Genderbent Singing~
I do this too -_- however I fail TERRIBLY!!
What someone told me to do to try and get more emotion into the singing is to try and overpronounce the words. I think it works fairly well for me, even though I don't really know how to explain it ^_^'' and even still I end up sounding airy the majority of times.
The way you say things is also important. There are differences in the way that men and women speak, not just the pitch, but the way words are pronounced. o_o I don't know if I'm explaining myself correctly... the tone, the way you end a word or a sentence. Lose the femininity is what I'm trying to say. If we all sat and listened to the way that guys speak, we'd notice the differences.

Re: Genderbent Singing~
Okay X'DD I FAILED the mixing at the second chorus... just... Ren Nano (my male side have a name X'DD) just fails at sounding like a dude.
Uhm how Ren sings is like real guys... i have allways been in special school for singers and my guy-friends learned me how they sang and it is kinda far from how girls sing... boys sings more with the throught than girls does ... so fucusing on my throught and siging low notes simply makes me sound more manly ^^

Re: Genderbent Singing~
YES!! that's what im trying to sayy!! i usually combine my throat with my yawning voice, and then focus my breathing way to my chest[im not a musician so i dont know what to call this but well,,,i've tried]...what i mean by this "breathing way", is the area where you feel the air is most condensed when you sing.. for most people, that "airy area" would be in the throat....but when i want to sing male-like, i would usually focus my breathing on the center of my chest or stomach(but its hurtful cuz i dont know the right technique)...so the female's sorta gone....

Re: Genderbent Singing~
ooh, my "male" voice tends to sound like low voiced girl (or alice from superjail) or get really, really nasaly
my high register is ick too
BUUUUUUUT if you want to widen your range, the key is firts to not focus on sounding masculine or feminine, but just getting to the notes, once you can hit them you can deal with voice effects if that made sense anywherre outside my head

Re: Genderbent Singing~
This is probably the only sample I have of me failing a manrii voice, but it's like, a year old. XDD;;;
Totally agree with Eri though, work first on hitting those notes before even trying to sound male. I do agree though, males tend to use their throat more when singing. ><

Re: Genderbent Singing~
Well, I have a pretty wide range, My lowest notes are in the baritone range but I usually sound bad singing low, but is so easy for us girls to sing in the tenor range, (At least Altos XD) even singing low I don't think i sound like a boy, I still sound like a female singing low, If i could I would use a voice changer to sing super deep like Kaito and Gakupo lol

Eeh ... My " male " voice sound like a low voiced girl too. =/
I often sing with my lower voice because a lot of Vocaloid song have very high notes that i can't reach, but well, it's difficult to sing like a boy. '__'
I want to sing like Valshe *OOO*

Re: Genderbent Singing~
Good luck! ^w^
And you all are so good at it! *.*
Yes, altos have a muchmuch easier time of being male~ I suppose sopranoes can be shotas? I dunno, though =A=
Ahh, I'm so jealous of altos that can sing tenor as well! It's kinda taunting to me right now xDD Cuz my lowest note currently is C#3, so one more half-step, and I could sing tenor too, and there would be four billion more songs that I could sing as a man xD (Actually, my eventual goal is an A2, but that might be too ambitious D| )
I have a bit of a problem going over the top, though, sometimes... It's not quite a feminine thing, it's more of I try to sound so manly I sound flamboyantly gay. xD I've noticed the best thing for me is somewhat restricting the air in my throat and letting it close up on itself, and it really hurts, but it seems to work. I'll try focusing on my stomach more too, maybe I can hit C3...
You guys can hit low notes sounding female? O.O Once I get into my lowest notes, I physically can't do them without slipping into Kitoko. :/ Huh. Now I'll have to practice on getting my female voice that low, too. xD
@OrenjiRin: Waaah! Supaisuuu~ Whispers work in the context of the song, though, so it sounds nice! I've noticed that many people tend to sound like fully mature male voices when they sing like a guy, and I love that 'teenage' sound you have~
@AkemiKioku: ... Can I call you Aki-san? I dunno, I just want to. ;; Guys can sing like girls too! ^.^ There's that one epictastical magnet like that... Umm, just make sure to not look in a mirror while rehearsing. Yeah. xDD
@Rin-Nano: You're really good at thiss!!! *.* I call my male self by a different name, too! xD Mine's 'Kitoko'... yeah, hilarious, I know xP but for some reason it stuck in my head. Or I supose 'DepressedPuppyBoy' would work too xD
@Cherry: Hey! I heard your IB! You do not fail at sounding masculine! D:< Good point with the feminity, though. I laughed at myself the first few times I tried to sound like a guy, because I kept flaring the ends of my notes. ;;
@fAi: This is a little random, but I managed to accidentally stalk down your YouTube account earlier today, and I found out that I've heard all your stuff before xD Your Len voice is reallyreally addicting O.O
@mong: You do sound very bishie! Niceee~ Your male voice goes high very naturally, like it's near the top of his range. He sounds epic!
@irO: I use Audacity, therefore, I don't pitch. ;; It does sound nice when done well, though~
And I never thought of the bored thing before :O I'll need to work on that.
(this post is reallyreally big. O.O;)

Um... I don't know if it helps any, but milk isn't the only thing that icks up your throat. Things that are kinda syrupy will do it to like flavored ice or... well, syrup. Soda will do it too. Oh, and hot tea is something that can clear up your throat really well, as long as you don't add cream or something like that to it.
Sorry, that's all I've got. ^_^;

@HappyKittyGirl T^T thank you so much my friend~! I love it when People lie to me. >//<
@Akemi I wanna hear you sing like a girlie too! >//<
@Kunmbancha I have that voice changer. I only downloaded it for the robot effect only to find that it's really bad.
All of this "naming your other voice" thing is really getting to me. o_o
I need to come up with a name for my other side too~!
Any suggestions people?
