I'm here to tell you all something important since some of the ytc members found this problem during our skype chats

PLEASE DO NOT GO TO SAFEBOORU FOR NOW! YOU WILL GET A VIRUS ATTACK ONCE YOU GO THERE

So unless you are willing to take the risks, please be careful
Some people's computers have already been infected.

My virus protections on my computer are AVG and Kaspersky. Luckily, Kaspersky told me something was up when I visited safebooru earlier today and terminated the threat. I also saved pictures from the site and so far nothing has changed. It's safe to say the pictures aren't infected, but the domain is. I'd say you'd best be careful of other boorus as well, JUST INCASE!

We don't want anyone to have to wipe their computer. It FREAKIN SUCKS.

Spread the word around, especially if you're an avid safebooru surfer, like myself.

And for further proof, that's EXACTLY what happened to my laptop! D: Getting that whole "Security Warning," Window's alert, and "using anti-virus removal" stuffs (despite already having Webroot). After constant scanning and termination of the virus, I failed. So I sent it to the Geek Squad.

According to the Geek Squad (using my own words and therefore paraphrasing), they tell me that this Security Suite thing is something like a hidden virus...thing.... And that's why I couldn't really scan and delete it. It's supposedly a common virus attack though. =A=;; They can clean it up and stuffs with everything intact still (hopefully).

But honestly. At this moment, don't go to Safebooru. You WILL get a VIRUS ATTACK.

Ah. I've had this problem before, twice. Not with safebooru though.

From experience, it's malware. It pretends to be a antivirus program and blocks legitimate software from running or removing the program. For me, the malware was called Internet Security 2010 and/or Windows Defender 2010. It has many other names though. And either way, if it isn't named that I'm sure this will work.

If it is the malware they're affected by, then please contact them somehow and tell them these steps! :U If not, ignore me.

  1. Open an internet browser that's not Internet Explorer. If that doesn't work, please do so on another computer.

  2. Go here and download Rkill (Note: It's free, so don't kick me out D;)

  3. If you already have an anti-virus program, use that. If not or if you want to, go to here and download malwarebytes (This version is free, too! Don't kill me! >.<).

    PS. This site also tells you how to remove the malware, you may continue reading there if you want.

  4. Transfer the files to the infected computer.

  5. Install Malwarebytes. If there are problems with installing ex. "blahblah is infected and cannot be opened", run Rkill. Try installing again.

    If you are still unable to install, run Rkill WHILE the "blahblah infected" notice is still open. Then, install. If it still won't install, rename the file and install. You might have to restart, I don't remember.

  6. After installing, open Malwarebytes (or your antivirus) and run it. You should be able to remove the malware now.


Personally, the antivirus program I had while the computer was infected couldn't remove the malware, so I had to use malwarebytes.

I went to safebooru yesterday and nothing happened, so it must be something around these last 6 hours...

in worst care you might have to format your PC, and it's real troublesome, plus it'd be hard to backup files once the problem occurs, so do be careful ><;

Can free antivirus solve the problem? O: I'm not really sure but, as far as I know free antivirus is.... not really useful ><;; Well, not as good as some other antiviruses... I'm not sure, though @_@

(If you're talking to me...) Malwarebytes had worked for me twice. There is also full version that you'll have to pay for, but I doubt anyone wants to do that.

Well, for me personally, I use Avast and it is the free version, it has always blocked threats for me so far so I'm not sure if it would work in a case like this but so far it has worked well for me, Not gonna risk going to Safebooru to test it out lol

I got this, so I'll explain what happens. You're not able to access your interner or any programs. You end up being spammed by pop-ups saying that something is infected. The only way I know of it wiping your computer clean, or doing what I did and made a new User and delete the last one.
Either way, you'll have to get rid of everything to get rid of it itself. So DO NOT GO ON SAFEBOORU

Well that sucks. D:

Though I would advise that you have made the new user, download the things above, use an USB drive to transfer the files into the infected one, then restart.

Apparently, if you restart the computer, go to the infected user, then open Rkill BEFORE the malware starts up, you should be able to stop the malware from stopping you from opening any programs.

I should have typed this before...

If that won't work, then I very sorry I even bothered to try. |l"orz

The threat should be over by now. Anyways, it's similar to the Trojan Horse Virus ( awesome names)
So, the software recommended by Variegeta is the best thing to do. Many sites have these problems too, so get a good Anti-Virus software.
(My Mc-Afee almost deleted my whole Windows, thinking that it was a virus, FAIL)

Oh! So THAT explains the virus I had. Too bad I saw this a few months too late... The exact same thing happened to me.
All you have to do is go on safe mode and run Malware Bytes as soon as possible, it'll wipe out the virus. Oh, and if you don't have Malware Bytes you can still go on the Internet to download. Here's the video that helped me, just in case this is still going around:

Thank goodness I had an extra computer to find the solution.
