All in the Name of Singing....?

Okay, so maybe the topic line isn't the best description ever but I'll make a point to clarify it now~

So all of us have some things we avoid or swear by in order to make our voices sound better right? Like avoiding dairy products before singing or avoiding chocolate in case it makes you throat close up. But the question here is what do you specifically avoid/ must do before a song to make sure you sound your best?

For me, I insist on swallowing a teaspoon of honey before I sing. It makes my vocal chords seem smoother. >_> Although, I've been told I'm not the only person who does this.

really?? wow,,,i dont know THAT..but usually, oily foods as well,should be avoided, and also cold drinks i guess? i'm not sure bout that one though

...o yeah, kitty said citrus will help to clear your throat and yes, dairy product will clog it.. and it makes me wonder now, what about a citrus ice cream? its both citrus and dairy products? lololololollsss! xD

vocal excercises? lol they sound seriously stupid honestly but i think it works...i hope lol

@playamount: Ah, I guess you have a point. But I always seems to jump straight into songs without the exercises ;A; I'll hurt myself one day, I swear.

I usually just drink some water and clear my throat.

Vocal exercises sounds like a good idea...I should try that too sometime.

i dont know how to exercise my vocal and i dont know where to find help so yeah...just sing, and go burn myself! xD

@Nyaron: Really? Hmm...i don't know, maybe for some people its different...

When I did vocal training (years ago) my teacher made me sing the silliest phrases to warm up. But I can't remember any of them and she always used a piano to make me sing up the scale. Hmm... any one have a good alternative?

I got this rumor from a friend, that if you mix a spoon of sweet soy sauce with a spoon of lime juice it'll make your voice clearer.....i dont know, i havent try it yet *i ran out of lime, loololols!* but i dont recommend it..-_-llla

Yay! Another tea lover! I'm a lover of herbal teas myself. But as previously mentioned, warm drinks make my mouth dry up ;A; Shame really...

@Nyaron and SUDDI: My mom sometimes just bursts into my room while recording too...

One time I was recording, my mom rushes into my room and started suggesting songs like Canto-pop and stuff o.0
(I wish my mom wouldn't joke around with me like that lol)

And ever since then, I've always made sure I'm home alone before recording XD

@Taitoshin: Ah, you speak Canto too? My brother said something similar to me once, he asked 'why do you always sing Japanese? Why never English or Canto?' XD
But you're lucky, my mum says I sing god awfully ;A;

Y-yeah, I've made it a habit to be home alone when singing too, but even then I worry that one day the neighbours will complain.

@Nyaron: I'm pretty sure my mom was just making fun of me or something...at least your mom gives you honest feedback.

I tend to worry about my neighbours when I sing as well...

@Taitoshin: But I honestly don't think I sound that bad... ;A; I think parents are around to poke fun of us.

It's times like these, I'm grateful that I have an attic room, but still, the paranoia's there, right?

I'm stuck on the basement suite, so I have to wait for the people upstairs to go to work/school lol

Well, sorta lucky, during the winter, you can see your breath in my room. There's no heating up there... ^^U

Ah, so you're in the basement. That kinda sucks, since sound's more likely to travel up and all... Keep working at it! I'm sure you'll be a fantastic singer (y-you know, the moment you find a moment to practice.)

My brother comes and asks me if I want to watch anime with him (there's so many animes he wants me to see). Also the bathroom is next to my door T_T

Meh,,,i got my breaks when my mic broken, or there's people outside, or there's virus up in the computer, OORR...you live with another person that never seems to go away,..lololollollsss...OORR, i got so stressed out because of my bad singing so i decided its the time to break....lololollllollls! xD...All in the name of singing...>.>
