Re: How Does Everyone Practice?
Well first i listen to the whole song
Next i break the song into parts
Then i learn each part separately (to get the pronunciation)
Last i record each part separately and put themm all together
Is that cheating :D?

Actually, that's a pretty smart idea, gamefreak-senpai... ^^; I might (probably) try that sometime since I run out of breath when holding long notes and forget lyrics for certain parts sometimes.... (Fail)

Re: How Does Everyone Practice?
I practice by humming the song. Then I learned the lyrics. And finnally I sing the whole song. That's my stlyle of practicing I guess ^^ It's not that proffesional and complicated as it supposed to be.

Re: How Does Everyone Practice?
listen to it on my mp3 while washing dishes. helps loads. ^^ sometimes i might lower it an octave or so. i dont lik listening to my voice after singing in a ridiculous high pitch for so long -.-
makes me feel ashamed and squeaky.
dynamics too...i try to blend with the song...
hehe my cousin sings in the shower...the funny thing is that he sounds a bit like Michael Jackson.

I like you.Effyness wrote:Ah, I see. Um, vocal warm-ups. Also, I've found that I've greatly improved my range by constantly trying to sing songs that lie just a little bit outside of my range, and if I do that enough, I dunno, my range just improves. X3 Recently, I've been trying to remind myself to sing with my diaphragm and not my throat (or however it is singers say it...) by like, doing those deep breathing exercises they do? It really helps a lot. And to stay on key, I've kind of tried to teach myself how to tell whether or not I've gone flat, by...I dunno, listening really well. I know, nothing specific or anything, and maybe I still didn't answer your question... ^^;
Well, I'm a classic singer (surprise!), so a way to both sound louder and not hurt your throat no matter how much you sing is to... raise your palate? Like, when you yawn, it gets an arched shape. Reproduce that when singing if it's classic. Otherwise, it sounds odd.
A way to know if you're singing right is if you can feel your throat and nose tingle. It means you're letting air out the right way. ^^ Singing "with your nose" just because it sounds more penetrating IS NOT CORRECT. D<
As for tone, I guess it just depends on the person. That's why the expression "tone-deaf" exists. xD
Also, when I learn a song, I play the vocal part on piano and learn it from there, and when I know how it goes I listen to the original to adjust my timing.
It's also important to read and understand what you are singing to make it have the right feeling.
My two cents~

Re: How Does Everyone Practice?
hm.... i dont have a set way. (is that wierd?)
sounds like you all do the same thing each time you decide to sing something, but i just do w/e i feel like doing. and its different for each song. some songs i can just sing right away after listening to it once with lyrics. others i need to listen to some parts over and over.
the only thing that doesnt change each time is that i dont warm up or w/e.
recording always takes forever, it seems. im never happy with the results, so i give up in the end.

Re: How Does Everyone Practice?
*doesn't read thread*
I sing for 15 hours straight, every tuesday, thursday, and I sing for 8 hours saturday and sunday I'M A BEAST LIKE THAT
I also have a tendency to overuse my already limited air supply, due to my breathing issues, to produce certain tones/pitches because, sadly, I'm also monotone. You'll hear a lot of gasps if you were to ever listen to me lol I also shake back and forth when I run out of air and have to keep singing, it somehow helps
that singing for long hours thing was a joke, the most I've sang for is 4 hours straight <---

Re: How Does Everyone Practice?
Well, for my case, I listen once or twice. Follow the original song. When I can follow the melody then I'll practise on the pitch... Sometimes, if that song has such high pitch beyond my capability, I won't sing that song at all...!
Later I'll record my acapella and listen to it (usually it sounds different than what I thought), correct the mistakes and try again and again... When everything is okay, I'll karaoke (for timing).... Until everything perfect!!! What important here is practise.....
I don't have wide dynamic range so that's my weakness....
I don't give emotion in my singing though. I once try giving it but when I listen, there's no difference in my singing...
FYI, I mostly follow original singer's style so I don't have originality. Except for my weird voice...! Hahahahaha.....
*Medium used for my practice: Karaoke function in phone (so that I can sing in my room without anyone noticing) and audacity for recording...
Practice! Practice!
