Katerinu's Covers
- RECENT COVER:
Hi there! I'm Katerinu (Kat for short!) I've technically been a Youtaite since 2007. I went on hiatus in 2011 due to college, and now that I have a place of my own, I'm looking to get back in the game! I typically write translyrics in English of Vocaloid songs, but have branched out into writing lyrics for songs of other languages, as well as covering popular songs (always in English.) I don't like singing in other languages out of fear I'll butcher the language and/or accent :c But I'm interested in learning French and Japanese, so maybe someday!
When I began in 2007, I took an interest in creating English lyrics and singing them for anime music (Character songs, opening and ending themes, etc.) but once I discovered Vocaloid, my passion for these singing androids took over. I love creating lyrics in English, trying to give them a typical American pop feel, in hopes that someone not overtly interested in Vocaloid or other songs of different origin might come across them and go, "Hey! This is pretty cool!"
Now-a-days, I'm interested in horror-esque songs (Kikuo, MASA) but also enjoy high-paced electronic and "nostalgic" sounds (Giga, Hachi.) As long as I enjoy a song enough, I'll cover it!
My most recent solo cover is Dance of the Dead by Kikuo.
My most recent cover, however, is of Drop Pop Candy by Giga, featuring the vocal talents of my friend, who goes by the pen name, Hikari!
- Other Covers:
I personally feel that my lyrics and mixing capabilites are pretty solid, however, feel free to critique them! I'm more interested, rather, in obtaining a more professional sound to my vocals, and a lot of the times I feel my mastering is off! If you have any tips and tricks, or any other sort of feedback regarding sound quality, that would be very helpful and I would appreciate it a lot! Thanks for taking a look! ♥

Re: Katerinu's Covers
i thought this would be a simple cover to mix but truly i made a mistake
it was fun tho
Re: Katerinu's Covers
I really don't like the song that much, and singing/mixing it was a pain. (IMO it's such a boring song?) But I wanted to cover it because this arrangement gave me super nostalgia for InuYasha lmao

Re: Katerinu's Covers
so usually i record in stereo, but for this cover i recorded in mono. i think the outcome has a crisper, more professional sound! (it's also a HELL of a lot easier to work out necessary volume levels wOW) i'll be working with this more in the future.
Re: Katerinu's Covers
oooh what a mature voice *O*
i really love your cover of bacterial contamination!! the harmonies were flawless hnnnngh ;;; your voice has an edge to it that makes very well-suited for kikuo/other horror-esque songs, i think.
also, i enjoyed your energy in bpm! i listened to it right after listening to bacterial contamination (TALK ABOUT MOOD WHIPLASH ;;; ) but that you sound good in both is a testament to the versatility of your voice.
tl;dr good work!!! looking forward to more covers \o

Thank you very much for your kind words! I love spooky songs and hope to work with a lot more in the future! But I still can't help my love for some cutesy stuff or fast-paced dance music or... whatever else catches my interest! Haha so I try hard to pull off as much as I can! Again, thank you so much!
Re: Katerinu's Covers
satisfied with how the volume levels turned out on this one! i dont usually use other people's lyrics but a friend linked me to JubyPhonics cover some time ago and i couldnt get them out of my head!
Re: Katerinu's Covers
I'm quite proud of this cover! Since my hard drive died and I lost my old Vegas 7, I updated to Vegas 11 and while the controls are the same it was my first time mixing with it! It comes with some neat little additions that 7 never had and it made mastering much easier! (Though I still have some things to learn!)
I also really like how the lyrics came out for this. I was originally searching for people to help me write them, but I couldn't find anyone to lend me hand so I ended up having to get them done by myself and boy it was really hard! @n@ While I wasn't able to match syllable count, I tried to keep the sound and meaning intact while changing the flow up a bit! :)
Re: Katerinu's Covers
Your lyrics are super impressive! I actually haven't heard a lot of these songs, before (noob, here), so this was a really cool intro to some awesomeness!
Re: Katerinu's Covers
Forgot to post my last two covers! Whoops!

Reverse Rainbow feat. Hikari!
Re: Katerinu's Covers
i honestly do not like the original version of this song at all but through looking at covers I found I really love CheliBear (Yari's) version, so they inspired me!

Re: Katerinu's Covers
Throwing some heavy rock into the mix! Corruption Garden was a cover I started months ago and left alone because I thought the vocals weren't any good. Discovered it ~two weeks ago and went "hey! this ain't half bad!"
On the flip side, Poster Girl's Prank is the easiest cover I've completed so far. I recorded everything in one go without feeling any need to redo it, and had it done in 3 days. Three different voices, and it was the easiest thing I've done! Go figure.
Re: Katerinu's Covers
So this is done! I plan on covering the colate mix as well. I REALLY want to cover the club mix but I don't think there's an instrumental for that haha oh well!
I watched some tutorials on mixing for this and learned a few new tricks! I wish I had autotune or some other tuning program besides basic melodyne, I feel the chorus really lacks because of it but... I did what I could!
Re: Katerinu's Covers
I think I'm getting the hang of mastering! It's not perfect, but it sounds better than what I was doing before! It's still an absolute pain in the butt, but with more practice it will get easier!
