You don't need to have extremely professional programs to make a good animation. I mean, having pretty sparkling effects is not gonna be always better than a matching and rhythm-ed [Not sure if that word exists xD;;?] animation to the song. I think effects are pretty, but the most important thing is to be playfull and faithfull to the song's style :3.
Hope you can cheer up to participate in the contest, cause I am sure you can make amazing videos with WMM :3 ~!
