Auto tune Empty Auto tune

Post by Toriki Wed Jul 20, 2011 10:33 pm

Hai alll~ Let's hit the point:

Recently I just installed the add-on Auto Tune effect for Audacity, but I have no clue how to use it. I messed around with the settings and choose a random key in attempt to try and change a portion of my RAW. But errr... nothing happened. I looked at tutorials and all but none work for me. Rather than balance everything I highlited, sometimes it only changed a very little part in the selection. I wonder why. seriously?

That aside, I got a second question. Yay! Yah, so errr... I just can't do harmonies, at all. I don't know how. I heard you can use Auto Tune to do that for you, is that true? Happy Go Lucky

Can anyone help me? Thank you very berry much in advance. Happiness

Aah, no. You can't use auto-tune for harmonies sadly, unless you just want to set your vocals to a different key (That might be considered harmonies in your book, but not mine, LOL.).

If you want harmonies like the ones you hear in actual songs, you'll need something like Antares Harmony Engine. If you'd like the link to get it free, message me~!

I tried getting that harmony engine and it is not working on Audacity for me. As far as I'm aware, it only works on Adobe and some other program that I can't remember right now.

Ahhh, I thought I had mentioned it.

Yup. It's a VST EFX, and they usually only work on programs such like that. If you need the free version Adobe Audition 1.5 or 3.0, PM me. XD

If you're trying to find an easy way to tune, I suggest you get Melodyne (no it's not free but these days you can pirate anything if you try hard enough) and just use its pitch modulation to flatten all the lines and achieve the Auto-tune effect.
(Plus you could use it for just making your raw lines more on-key in general)
You can also use that to get/tune harmonies, but it'll take practice and.. some basic knowledge of music theory.
There really is no way to get good harmonies with just a program or device.
However, there are a lot of articles online on basic music theory and finding harmonies, etc. so you could always try that.
