Creating a chorus help!
Heya!
My friend and I are going to do a duet and post it on Youtube. While this will be different/separate from your group, we are going to be using the same methods [mixing and animation]. The only problem is that I do not know what software to use/how to use it.
For mixing, I just need some basics. Putting voices together and at their own times, timing them well enough, etc. I’m pretty sure I could just use Audacity for this, right? If so, I could probably work it out. I’m not sure of any other software to use.
For animation, I’m a total noob. I don’t need any fancy chorus stuff, maybe even just a static image or a tiny little slideshow for different times. However (each chorus varies, but at least) for Nico choruses you have boxes with names and a picture that shows up whenever that select person starts singing. I’d like to know how to create that, and time them so they show up at the appropriate times. Since it’s only a duet, it will be pretty simple, but I don’t know where to start and what to use. I have Adobe After Effects and a different friend who knows how to use it, though.
One more question for you guys; where can I find backing tracks? We’re going to be singing Dear You [Hope] and I don’t know a place where I could find a track for that.
Thanks for any help you can give! I love all of your choruses and hope you keep up the good work.

Audio Mixing
Cheapest and best method is Audacity. You can download plugins for it so that you can get different effects but usually they are easy to find out.
Video Animating
Most of the time, you do need paying programs. One of the best is Sony Vegas. It's used by alot of animators and video editors.
Off Vocals
Go here or you can easily just do a "Dear You Off Vocal" search on YT. Use a YT to MP3 converter or it should have a handy download link.

Aww, that sucks. Do you think there's some free program that I could use if I just use a static image? The best I have is iMovie and I don't have too much spending money at the moment. Most of the time, you do need paying programs. One of the best is Sony Vegas. Any guides for mixing two vocals together handy?Cheapest and best method is Audacity. You can download plugins for it so that you can get different effects but usually they are easy to find out.
Thanks!

Re: Creating a chorus help!
For the movie, I am suspecting iMovie is an apple program. I work with windows so I'm afraid I can't help you there.
For the mixing, you can import more than one file onto the same document on Audacity. Import the files you need [either one by one or mute them all but keep the ones you're working with audible] and just move them around using the double arrow icon at the top.

Yes, it's indeed an Apple program, haha! For the movie, I am suspecting iMovie is an apple program. I work with windows so I'm afraid I can't help you there.
Any other programs you recommend? I've been meaning to get Sony Vegas 8 but maybe Adobe After Effects could work too . . . hmm.

Re: Creating a chorus help!
AE will eat up your RAM and it's very expensive. Vegas is relatively cheap, but you also have to pay for it. Please also check our help forums for things you may need.

A@# for off vocals, youtube has plenty. Just search ;D
these are some you can reference.
Good luck! :D

Re: Creating a chorus help!
I actually have After Effects, plus a friend who can use it. It's just a matter of persuading him, haha!AE will eat up your RAM and it's very expensive. Vegas is relatively cheap, but you also have to pay for it. Please also check our help forums for things you may need. Happiness
Thank you so much for the guide to Audacity. I read the whole thing!
I'll search for a backing track then.

Re: Creating a chorus help!
Actually if you want to do something as simple as a slideshow (like this) then you don't need to pay at all. All you need is a simple graphics program (maybe a little bit more powerful than paint, unless you're some sort of graphics making masochist) and a simple video editing program like windows movie maker or iMovie.
After Effects is really powerful, and probably not something you want to use if you want to do something as simple as that. It takes up too much ram, and it's not worth waiting for it to render forever for that. Hahaha.
If you need a more detailed explaination, I could throw together a quick how-to at some time... +_+
