Hello! Sorry for the noob question, but what do you guys usually do when you record your lines?
For example, record the verses and choruses separately, etc? Do you save them as separate files (er, what kind? mp3?) or do you save them in a single file?

Just a question for mixers: how do you usually prefer the files to be? Lines split into verses/choruses, etc? And saved in individual files?

Thanks~! Hope it isn't too confusing of a question

I guess it really depends on each person, everyone and whatever their comfortable with.

I think most people though, like me for instance, record each verse, chorus etc separately. It makes things easier, and doesn't make you record the whole song in one go, which is really tiring and a pain in itself. = w =;

As for exporting them [I suppose you mean like when you're sending them for a chorus?], most people I've seen [me included] prefer to put them in separate files. One for the vocals [verses and choruses], and one for the harmonies\adlibs [if there are any].

I guess that also helps the mixers, so they know in what volume to put this and that.

Another thing I saw with mixers is that they prefer mp3's over wav's or whatever other sound file there is.
I guess that's because mp3's have a smaller file size, not sure about that.

Hope I didn't confuse you too much or anything with this wall of text.
I tend to go really long on explanations... ^ ^;;

Thats true, but you should use wav, because mp3 makes some artifacts in the high frequences.
For example: you have your instrumental and your voice (in 128kbs mp3). You mix that and save as another 128kbs, what happened? Right, the sound quality goes more down, because you have save it as 128kbs before. So: first wav for maximum quality and then save it as mp3. You can downgrade your sound but upgrade is impossible.

(because I love stalking you)

I put my main lines in one mp3 file (MP3 BECAUSE IT IS MUCH EASY TO DOWNLOAD AND UPLOAD) as for the verses, I use different tracks (example adobe au = track 1 for verses , track 2 for verses (if they collide w/each other) so on and so forth)

Harmonies on different mp3 file because the mixer doesn't want shiiiiiiiiitty mp3's with harmonies and mains on them.( well if im the mixer i would definitely redo or throw away their lines. 8D)

AND UHH LASTLY you should record in a way that youre most comfortable with. tips could help you , but its really up to you which is comfortable; to do verse by verse, chorus, or what so ever.

dont forget to time it too. mixers will love you more if you do that, if its a solo, youll love yourself for timing it before mixing because it would lessen your work. : D

TIMING IS THE ESSENCE

but i think i went off topic. sry
