this will be an open discussion for Higurashi! If you have any questions, get fans to answer them!
Do you guys hate how Rika in the first arcs was so... irrelevant?
And shes the center of the plot OTL

Re: Higurashi
I agree! Awsome thriller anime where the plot does make you think and doesn't have "cookie cut-out" characters.
I think they did that so the viewer doesn't have too much information in the beginning. idk that's just my opinion.
...When the cicadas cry, it means get the heck up outta there! Because thekiller moe's shrine god's after you!

Oh yeah, ive been wondering something!
- Spoiler:
- When Rena says she feels a spirit looking down on her, it that Hanyuu?
Because Hanyuu is the footsteps (correct me if I am wrong), so if yes does that mean shes driven into insanity more than anyone else?
Re: Higurashi
I need to completely finish the series orz... I'm on
But regarding your question, ehh...probably? I mean
- Spoiler:
- The arc where it's about Rena trying to protect her dad from that chick and Satoko's uncle. From a spoiler, i found out who Oyashiro-sama was but I need to actually watch it.
But regarding your question, ehh...probably? I mean
- Spoiler:
- Rika's the only one who can see Hanyuu b/c they're related, but idk if anyone else can hear her...
Re: Higurashi
It's not from "Rei", it's the final arc in the first anime...and I can't remember it's name OTL D:ThaiKunoichi wrote:I need tocompletelyfinish the series orz... I'm onIs this part of the "Rei" arc or another one?

Oh ok. I didn't think the first one had a "special" name added to it, i thought it was just Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni
Re: Higurashi
The first season didn't have a second title to identify it, it simply followed the original series starting title. The series titles go as follows:
- Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni
- Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni Kai
- Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni Rei
- Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni Kira
As for the Hanyuu thing, there were instances where she could be heard by others. This was mainly apparant when Rena spoke about hearing footsteps and there were accounts of people hearing a voice say "I'm sorry". This was infact Hanyuu who followed them around in each world and she was apologizing for the fact that she could do nothing but sit and watch as everyone fell to fate.
Rika is the only person able to fully communicate with Hanyuu until she takes on a solid form. Her horns are either considered a hair ornament or another theory is that they are infact invisible to the characters but viewers can see them so that they can remember that she is another being.
The whole thing about Rika being seen as a minor character in the first season was to highlight that actual story featured in that particular arc so the main character was the person who commited the crimes. This allowed for character development to go a bit deeper on the other characters whilst also distracting you from the fact that Rika was, infact, the main character. However, you do have to note that alot of people do still consider Keiichi the real protagonist due to him being the one who encouraged Rika to change fate and how he takes on the group leader role at most points.
I, personally, think that if Rika had been made as the apparent lead role then the series wouldn't have been able to develop as much as it did as it would pretty much just focus on her and there'd be no mystery. It was the question of "Who is Rika speaking to? What is going on with this little girl? What does she know?" that kept viewers interested.
And my long opinion is over.

I know all now ; v ;
okay well I guess I should share what I actually know.
Yes, there is a disease called the Hinamizawa Syndrome which causes Kei, Rena, and Shion to spiral into insanity. While it is an unfortunate occurrence, these CAN be averted. You can somewhat say that the "extra footstep" that they hear is a partial symptom of their level of insanity. Their senses become sensitive enough which lets them hear (but not see) Hanyu(u).
I'll do more later
Re: Higurashi
The footsteps was one of the things that lead to Rena and Keiichi's insanity. Rena says herself how she would hear the footsteps and that was what lead her into a deeper case of the Hinamizawa Syndrome. Sure, it may have been down to the Hinamizawa Syndrome itself but Hanyuu may have just been making herself more apparent so that she could apologize or it may have just been a momentary thing like how people can hear some noises at times from spirits in real life but then they hear nothing. It's really up to your own interpretation but that's how I see it.

Re: Higurashi
Umineko was atrocious if you've played the game. Apparantly, it missed out so much. I seriously preferred Higurashi but that's maybe because I wanna kill Maria UUUUUUUU UUUUUUUUUU UUUUUUUFUCKINGUUUUUUUUUUU She deserved to be bitchslapped.
The thing about Higurashi is that you kinda have to watch the second season to have everything explained to you. It isn't an anime you can just stop after the first arc so I highly suggest you continue the series. It is majorly confusing but it all makes sense after the first arc of the second season which includes an anime-only arc.

Re: Higurashi
I have to agree. Battler = Niiiiiiiiiiiice <3. The episode were he was naked made fangirls all over the world die from bloodloss.
I don't get the big fuss over Kanon, though. He was just weedy to me.
But, hands down, can't beat Akasaka for me [Also, he was voiced by Daisuke Ono who also did Battler so JACKPOT]

Re: Higurashi
KIRA isn't released yet but is due out either June or July. It was announced in order to mark the 10th anniversary of the series. The first episode is an original gag episode like the first episode of REI with hints of ecchi. Also Satoshi and Keiichi are in the same timeframe.

I love Higurashi. It's too bad that many of my friends end up giving up on it before they can actually start to understand what's going on
