Ranking system by posts~

Just something I'd like to bring up out of curiosity~
So on other forums they have these ranks under their names like "Newbie", "Senior Member", etc. and we can actually implement that in the YTC forums.

So I'd just like to know whether any of you think that it would be a good idea to implement such a system and whether you think it would encourage people to be more active in the forums or something?

Feel free to discuss the advantages and disadvantages down here. xD
And if you can think of some ways to encourage more activity, feel free to suggest some as well! :3

Now, I'm not saying this will definitely be implemented. I just want to see if anyone is interested in it. owo

The ranking system seems awesome, but my main concern about it is that the system depends on the number posts.

Wouldn't it just start the spamming problem again?
Or, is there another way to do the rankings, like the number of days, weeks, months, or years, a person has been a member.

I don't think it would start the spamming problem again as long as the members abide by the rules. I will discuss with the mods whether it would be alright if I can recruit more helpers to help me spot out and stop the spammers. But generally, it doesn't seem like problems like that exist in forums with the whole ranking by posts thing. owo

I don't think it would be quite fair if it was by the length of time. It wouldn't give the ranking system much use for anything then especially for making people more active on the forums. xDD;;
I think by posts would be the best.

I just want to see more activity in the forums. We have 1000+ members but not even 50% are active. Also, I want to get the lurkers to stop lurking and actually post something with their own will! xDD

Mmmm... I know what you mean Kran... Um, I am not sure how the best way would be to go around this inactivity (except maybe poking ppl with a stick), but Immy may be right on the spamming problem, that is if you make a big deal out of the ranking system... If you know what I mean^^;;

It's not going to be a big thing. XD
If you make it a big thing and spam, then it is your responsibility for not having self-control.
The ranking system will just be there to award users in some way easier than getting badges for being active in the forums. If you take it too seriously, then there is definitely something wrong with your attitude towards the ranking system.

So long as you abide by the rules while posting and are aware of the needs of other members. I think it will be fine.

I think this is a nice idea, not sure about the amount of posts. Since some people spam the first day they are here and spam the whole week and already reached a 500 posts or more.
Wich means they are technically (I spelled that wrong sorry) still a newbie but the amount of posts say they are Senior Member.

Can't we combine the amount of days/years with the posts?

Spamming would be an issue. But then, there are people who are only here to sing and would rather be active on other community forums. Such as me. I have yet to really "break into" this community so I'm really not all that likely to post outside of auditions (official and nonofficial)

^ You should try to be part of the community ^^ It's really fun.

That's what I also don't really like, some people only come here to post auditions and such, wich is fine. But try to be part of the community too! It's fun! And I met the most interesting people here.

Pros:
Makes the forum more "official" is a way
Can be fun and enjoyable among friends
Can tell whos top dog here >D
Can make less active people be more active
Can make people tell whose and oldie and whose a newbie
Cons:
Spamming issue for people who wanna lvl up
Can cause fights. Trust me, I've see some forums get destroyed of this)
A big issue from the Audition Only people
People may RQ from the amount of spam.

Well, if they did do some postin on the first week and stopped then there's really something wrong with the forums. The aim is mostly for the new members to be encouraged to post rather than just sign up ad never use their accounts again. I saw how many accounts there were here on the forums Doug that and it's not pretty. We will be also inposig a not less than 5 words rule on the forums. We don't consider spam a people posting a lot but rather people who post with nt much content.

Question: will there be perks for those ranks? I'm part of another forum that has kind of a "depot" that allows certain members who are active and give quality posts where they can download content that other members put up to share (this is for an AKB48 fan site, so I'm not sure how it works for this site)

I know that I'm newish and I don't post much, but I really don't have a lot to say. I'm much more of an IM kind of person than a person who'll sit down and write up a forum post, but that's just me.

I'm unsure whether we can implement that. I'll go check when I get back home.

Just a note for everyone: I just checked the rankings and whether we can put it on any other option apart from posts. Unfortunately, we can't so if you want a ranking system, it has to be by posts or else the mods will have to manually add people into the ranks... That'll be a bit troublesome and confusing. xDD;;

I do think that some people will go post a lot because they want to level up, but if there are spam limits they can't post that much.
So like, you can only post 10 times in an hour or something? and then have to wait a few minutes?

But then that would actually work against the idea of the want for people to post more.. =/
(suppose I don't have much to say in this, I am neither intelligent and also have a lot a posts as it is... =/)

But doesnt the post count and the badges kinda serve as a ranking system already?
The badges are given to people who takes parts in events and stuff so it encourages people to be active, without the spamming problem..

I kinda doubt that a newbie and senior system will make people more active.

Oh god, don't use a posting LIMIT, don't even think about it! Talk about giving people the wrong idea. To me that would scream "we don't REALLY want to hear what you have to say, or let you participate, so we're going to force you to ONLY post THIS much for THIS long." Just, NO. :S

I'm not saying it like that. I just want to prevent really extreme spamming. You wouldn't even know there is a limit, if you don't post 30 to 50 messages a day. If you post like 10 messages in an hour you have to wait a few minutes to post again. Waiting isn't that hard?
People will think about what they are posting and don't post too short sentences/off topic.

Well, if a ranking system won't help, can any of you suggest some alternatives?

I think that a ranking system would be fun and helpful to get old members back. We could at least try setting this up and what about the chatbox? That would be fun and nice for the new members to get to know the others (: !

EDIT: Maybe we need more forum helpers to prevent the spamming?

I think as long as there are enough "Helpers" to keep the spamming at a minimum, the ranking should be alright.
Though having a chatbox would be fun and much easier to get to than Skype, it's gonna be really laggy if a lot of people message at the same time. . .

Yeah, first we'll see how it goes but I do plan on getting more members in the future. Because the Forum Helper thing is kinda a new idea to both the mods and the members, I think we should take it slow first. I'll talk to some other mods about it and see if theyll allow me to add the chat and the rankings. :3
