Covers of the Lynx.

Post by CodeLynx on Wed Apr 30, 2014 5:29 pm

Ha. Couldn't come up with better name. Creativeness rolling and whatnot.

So yes. I uploaded a thing to youtube because I really need some criticism. Constructive one preferably.

This is more of a test. One that I uploaded because I felt like I finally needed to put up something to get criticism. I finally was able to overcome my shyness and actually post me singing. Eh... anyways. All kinds of constructive criticism GREATLY appreciated. Whether it's about mixing or singing. Probably both.

I'm from Finland so my Finnish accent kinda messes with the pronunciation of certain words like... very hard. Yeah, I'm aware that I was singing off key but hey. That's something I can improve on, right? I'm really motivated to keep on improving my singing as well as mixing skills. Literally all I can do with mixing is based on what I've learned from video editing, which helped out a little in fact. I'm actually a bit relieved that there are people straight away who actually do not think badly of my voice, which means that I can actually work on avoiding to sing off-key. :D Gives me at least some confidence!

I agree with mie., you have a very nice tone to your voice. ^-^ Can't wait until your voice is no longer off-key~~ It's not like, super noticeable. Just some of the notes. I don't know if it helps or not, but it seems like you are flat. >w< So just need to sing a bit higher on those notes you're off on!

Also, regarding mixing, this document has been super helpful. There is also a guide specifically for Audacity users if you want that, too!

Thanks for the feedback. :> It really motivates me to improve my singing when I get criticism on singing off-key because that's something I can improve on where as my voice is something I can't get rid of. So if my voice is appealing to some people, then it's really a huge motivation boost. :'3

I have that post actually bookmarked. It gave me a general idea of the effects that are good to be used and so.

So I decided to just sing the full cover of this song instead of something else. (: Not too sure if it's any better than the ''test'' of mine was but oh well. Still messing up a lot of things here and there both vocals and mixing but I guess it can only get better as the time passes. I would appreciate it if you would take a little time to read what I have to say on the description of the video. On youtube that is.

Apologies for my somewhat annoying Finnish accent. Trust me, I hate it as well. Makes it hard to pronounce certain words and makes me mess up my singing. xD

I think the instrumental is a bit too loud, but you have a nice voice. Pretty good song choice too! Looking forward to future covers!

Thanks for pointing that out. I'm still rather new to mixing so it will take me a while to get it between my ears how loud the instrumental should be compared to my voice and whatnot. Smile

Also, I made a new cover of a song that absolutely love. I think I could do the full version? I might sing the beginning again when I get to continue it though but I think this one went better than Cut-off line? Maybe the flow of the song suits me more? Don't know. You tell me if it sounds any better. I can't tell my own improvements or anything at all. After all I judge myself pretty harshly when it comes to things like these. ^^

The chorus took damn long time to get even partly right though. Soo fast. ;w;

Ahahahaha you sang Six Trillion Years! XD That song is hilariously fast. Well, anyway, you already pointed out the pitch part, so I won't mention that. I think Cut-Off Line fits your voice better though, since Six Trillion is much more energetic, and your voice seems to suit slower songs better. Like, even within Six Trillion, the beginning of the song fit better than around 0:47 - chorus since that's where it starts to build up. I can see what you mean by the rhythm though. >w<b

By the way, if you are having issues with your accent getting in the way of your timing, you can always go into the raws and fix it up manually. If you're using Audacity, you'll probably have to go into the actual soundwave and cut it or extend it. I don't know if you're already doing that or not though. >w<b That's what I usually have to do though, since my own timing when I sing is atrociously slow.

OI KATO LISÄÄ SUOMALAISIA coughs

Ehm anyway, your voice is pretty nice! It's pleasant to listen to, and pitch is something you can always improve on! (Well, I'm pretty pitchy myself so---//shot)

Six trillion years is pretty hard song, and as Aerlith said, your voice seems to suit a bit slower songs, or at least I feel like it's easier to start out with them, then slowly move up to more difficult and energetic songs!

Also since you were worried about your accent, firstly it's not that bad. Lots of Finns have worse accents haha---
But have you thought about trying to sing in Japanese? To me at least, the pronounciation feels easier and I have less accent. Just suggesting though!

But yeah overall, your voice is low and pleasant, and I can't wait to hear more from you! ^___^

The last thing I expected to see on these forums was a Finnish person. Didn't know there was Finnish people on the youtaite scene. o: Glad to know I'm not the only one.

Anyways, I guess you two can tell it better than I can myself. The thing is that I can't speak Japanese, much less can I actually pronounce the words. I could try one day but as for now I might stay with English though.

I'm probably going to finish Six trillion years and then move on to something slower again. I really had some bad opinions about my cut-off line cover but I guess I should listen to others instead of myself. <.< I'm really enjoying singing Six trillion years though, I have to admit. Regardless of it being pretty hard to sing. The amount of times I had to re-record the chorus is just insane.

Lastly, thanks for the feedback! I really appreciate it a lot and it helps me keep on going regardless of my own thoughts. Smile

On meitä tääl kai jopa neljä?? XD Ainakin kolme owod

You have a really nice singing voice that suits mid to lower ranged songs. As Taifuu suggested, you should definitely try to sing in Japanese since the pronunciation is much closer to Finnish than English.

Also as for faster songs such as Six Trillion, I dunno how you're recording, but I at least find it easier to record the fast parts a few lines at the time cause it makes breathing and hitting the rhythm easier.

En kyllä uskonu näkevän edes yhtä mut on kyl kiva tietää et en oo ainoa. :'D

I did record Six trillion in parts. I had to. The chorus especially. The chorus I did in two parts but still failed it numerous times before I got at least somewhat acceptable results that wasn't completely miserable.

Yeah I'm probably going to continue with slower songs for now but I will most likely finish Six trillion first though because I really enjoyed singing it and might as well get it out of the way since I already started.

Would you nice people over here have any suggestions on some good slower songs that could be good for me? I'm open for suggestions. ^^

Also, regarding to singing in Japanese. I really... like can't speak in Japanese at all and barely know how to pronounce many of the words. Literally all I've learned about Japanese language is from Anime and that's probably not enough. Kamina  Is there a way I can sing them regardless of this? I'd be willing to try of course.

Finished version of Six Trillion Nights. I should have had the vocals louder. Especially the new ones but oh well. Smile Finally got it out of the way and now towards a bit slower songs.

Oh look another cover...
I decided to cover Time Machine because I just couldn't help it. I'm in love with this song. Maybe one day I'll be able to pull a good cover out of this song. :3 For now have to be pleased with this one.

New cover. (: I really felt like covering Mozaik Role but I felt like my voice would go better with 40mP's arrange of the song. Not to mention that I love 40mP's arrange of Mozaik Role a lot. It just sounds so nice. :3 Feedback is welcome as always!

And yes, I'm aware of those issues and trying to work on them as much as I can. Cool
I'm planning to cover Mekakucity actors opening even though I suck at fast songs but oh well.

He he he heheheheheheheaheaheahea~

I did it. I. Did. It.
And no it's not good. I seriously can't handle fast songs the slightest. :'D The chorus...
Oh well anyways, this is my latest cover. Hehe... enjoy... heh.
I need to learn to mix better too while improving my singing. Maybe I should try out adobe audition. Audacity seems to feel... annoying... at times. ^.^
