PV-Creating Programs Empty PV-Creating Programs

Post by Guest Tue Dec 29, 2009 11:36 am

Okay, I want to know what programs are ideal for making PVs, chorus videos, etc. If you guys know of any, please post the name and, if you can, an example of a PV done with that program.

Here's my list thus far.

1. Windows Movie Maker
Examples of PVs: 悪ノ召使 | イケ恋歌 (short ver.)
Examples of Choruses: none
Pros: FREE and very, very easy to use.
Cons: Very, very limiting! Pretty much only a slide show with little transitions and effects.
SUPER CON: AH, you can't get the Vista version for download, so you're stuck with with either 2.6 (which has terrible quality) or with Window Live Movie Maker, which has no time line. 8D

2. iMovie
Examples of PVs: none, atm.
Pros: Apple's equivilent to WMM, probably better because it's Apple. FREE.. if you own a Mac.
Cons: FREE.. if you own a Mac.

3. Adobe Flash (Thanks Ciel for extra info)
Examples of PVs: 二息歩行 | 弱虫モンブラン | モザイクロール
Examples of Choruses: none
Pros: Gorgeous.
Cons: Expensive. It might be my ineptitude-- I think it's very hard to use.. Once you know the ins and outs, it creates a powerful PV.

4. Adobe AfterEffects (Thanks Yoru & Ciel for extra info)
Examples of PVs: clock lock works | Just Be Friends | ワンダーランドと羊の歌 | ACUTE | Imitation Black
Examples of Choruses: 悪ノ召使 | ロミオとシンデレラ
Pros: Good for animation, very professional, a lot of preset options. Integrate Photoshop, 3DsMax and Flash.
Cons: Expensive. VERY RAM intensive (Not recommended for those with slow comps)

5. Sony Vegas (Pro /Movie Studio) (Thank you HaganeTsuki)
Examples of PVs: おいしいスープをつくりましょう
Examples of Choruses: YTC's ロミオとシンデレラ
Pros: Professional, Free Trials, Nice effects and transitions, Audio Mixing(very limited time, sometimes it wont match), 3D effects(depends on which version you using), way faster in creating previews versus AE.
Cons: Expensive, Too many functions, Vista or Above can be used, Video Renderer is Slow(Depends on your computer), very slow on Animating.

NOTE: This is VERY important to know-- All of the listed software, with the exception of Flash, are NOT illustration software. These programs are to create and animate of pieces that you've drawn in another program. All of the images used in the PVs were drawn in either Adobe Photoshop, Painttool SAI, or other illustrating programs.
If you're looking for images to use, PIAPRO is recommended because you can use most of the images rights-free. PIXIV as well. DeviantART on the other hand is NOT recommended because everyone there sees it as art theft and you will get heat for using pictures without permission. - o -"

Well I'm thinking of getting into the PV animating business, and I was considering using Flash to start off, just remember how to motion tween and stuff.

WMM and iMovie can make basic fade in, fade out stuff. I'll give a shot with that first.

It's very good to start off with WMM and iMovie, because all these programs use the same general interface.

I find flash very complicated. "orz I couldn't do anything more than a blinking animation when I used it. But it's a good program if you give time to learn how to use it properly.

Really though, you can motion tween the icons in and out, fade, etc etc in flash. If you really want to do something cool, then you can go full frame by frame more easily than other programs.

Acute and Imitation Black used After Effects for that. It's quiet obvious that they do. With all the particular preset and the lighting effects. ^^ Clock works, I think, used traditional animating style, with the frames stuffs, I don't know.

It's nice to use AE since you can do almost anything with it as long as you know how to manipulate it to it's full potential. You can also integrate Photoshop, 3DsMax and Flash with it. ^^

here are samples of choruses made by AE. I'm sure you're all familiar with this... :

After Effects and Flash are the two most used video softwares in Nico Nico Douga :3. AE has very AE distinctive features, and to list some big-shot PV makers, Mienohito, aska96, ke-sanβ and sleepwalker (the person who made the ARiA PV) all use AE. Flash users I personally know and have discussed video making with of are akka and Matutori.

AE is VERY RAM intensive though, so I don't recommend it for anyone with a slow PC....XD;;. It's also very unreliable and will start giving you chain error messages for apparently no good reason and make you want to rip your hair out.

I've never made any chorus videos in AE before, but, PV examples I've personally done:

I personally find it more intuitive to use than Vegas, but it could just be me!

What the heck lol; Why is my video up there =A=; Papa!

Making PV's with Sony Vegas requires a crazy load of layers, it's not even funny. It goes past the 100's if you want to make a half decent one.

I believe that's the case with making any video though? I use different compositions and put it together in After Effects, but even then my total layer usage is...well, I'd rather not think about it...):

AE is even more of a pain, 'cos you can put different things on the same layer if they don't overlap

You're not allowed to do that on AE. Pre-comping/comping is my hero. ;3;

For AE, it's just a matter of organizing the layers by categories. When I do chorus animations, I separate the Name Plates, Static Background, Moving Background, Layer Adjustments, and other stuffs. then mash up the pre-comps like what Aniki said. It would make the project easier to handle... \o\ and less messy too~ \o\

ACTUALLY. YANOVI, I THINK SOME OF HITOSHIZUKU-P'S SONGS WERE MADE WITH iMOVIE. AHHAHA.
Like uhh... Karakuri Burst. --> https://youtu.be/ZW-6U5bCyS4
I'm 99% sure that text movement is iMovie's HAHAHAHA.
(and why am I still replying to this)
ANYWAYS, JUST SAYING.
And as for a chorus video made with iMovie, you could always use this https://youtu.be/udBVuGFHc3o although I'm not sure if that counts HAHA

idk if this topic is still living and breathing....but there is another animation program....but I'm pretty unsure about it...

It's called "Pencil" .....it's a 2D animation software http://www.pencil-animation.org/

It's pretty similar to Adobe Flash. and the best thing about it that it's totally FREE on Mac, Windows, and Linux~ ...... there's a reason why it says ".org" |D

The downside to Pencil..........there are many...... but the one that gets me the most is the Work area you're given.......

I have played around with it for a while now....Still got nowhere with it, but simple animating..... To see how it is, just try it out, download it~

//Experience may Vary//

Did I also mention that it's portable[usb flashdrive accessible] & uses less data of your PC than in Flash? |DDDDD
