[Closed] December Song/Shiwasu Ni (Looking for Singer)
Hello all.
I run an educational webseries that deals in Japanese History and Culture. A prominent youtuber that I follow (Peter Hollens) is holding a contest to cover one of his songs. I thought it would be a fun exercise to produce a Japanese cover of the song and submit it to the contest (full disclosure: Part of the rules say no changing the lyrics, so the very exercise may be futile as it may be disqualified). I'm not particularly interested in actually winning the contest, to be honest, it was more a test of my abilities combined with the chance to get a shoutout for creativity from a guy I admire and respect (with 1.5 million subscribers).
So what I've done is translate the lyrics from English to Japanese and I've digitally remixed all the instrumentals using Japanese instruments (namely pan flute, shamisen, a koto, and an odd kalimba). Unfortunately I've hit a dead end in the fact that I can sing about as good as a monkey can write Shakespeare.
So I'm looking for someone who can sing in Japanese to team up with and sing the lyrics for me. An acquaitenced turned me on to this place when she said she was busy submitting her own cover to the contest and couldn't collaborate with me.
Position Open to: Male or Female Applicant(s)
If you're interested - the original song, itself, is December Song if you want to get a grasp of the tempo and rhythm.
As I just kind of mentioned, I'm a little new here...and judging by the few samples I looked at...woefully under talented compared to the regulars. So if anyone has any questions or if there's something I'm neglecting in this post...let me know and I'll try to fix it. Contest ends December 9th, so the sooner we can get things done, the less anxious I'll be about it all.
Here is a sample of the lyrics i'm dealing with (1st verse):
Shiwasu ni,
Bokura kudasaru,
Omoi chikyu.
Seinei,
Daremo.
Tanoshikoto suru jikan,
Odayakana akarui.
I can supply sheet music, wav of the tune you'll be accompanied by, whatever works. If we get to recording and there is a part that just can't match up with the music, I can alter the lyrics a bit with some poetic license. I'm here looking for help, so if anyone is looking to help out then I'm looking to make it as easy and efficient for you as possible.
I'm used to directing/producing voice actors, rather than singers, personally so if I'm doing anything wrong here, let me know.
Thanks again,
~Rich

Sorry to see this didn't get any hits. Hope you found a vocalist, man!
You may have had more luck if you put the full lyrics out here, and/or a guide track to sing with-- but there's really no telling. This forum is pretty hit or miss with this sort of thing!

Re: [Closed] December Song/Shiwasu Ni (Looking for Singer)
Yeah, I actually managed to find someone. Everything looked good for a bit, but then she stopped responding to my e-mails a couple days ago. Thanks for the kind words, though.
The contest did receive an extension to the 14th of December, so if anyone wanted to go for it I'm still open to volunteers.
The girl I was working with said that with the Japanese lyrics a slower tempo might help, so I created a 75 percent and a 60 percent speed track. And I have to admit they sound neat, to me.

60%: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B92m1UjsAUilTzNnTG5DSjY3dTA
Here are the lyrics as they stand:

Or, if you don't like google doc files, here's the full lyrics:
As I said, if anyone wants to join me in this competition...I am fully willing. If nobody does then I have to try to sing it. And you should hear the god-awful rhythm-less cat-strangling I've been doing to these poor, sweet, innocent lyrics.

Okay, I've closed the posting because Violet did a wonderful job on this project.
Here's the finished project in case anyone was interested in how it turned out:
