Oh yeah, Audacity all the way, for the hobos.
Well, it's free and you can download Plug-Ins, for extra effects and such.

Re: what program does everyone use to edit there vocals?
I use Audacity to record and Adobe audition to mix 8D.. But currently I'm not mixing my own songs anymore XD

Reverb is a must because it gives presence to your voice in the song. It's the echoey effect you're looking for. Adobe Audition has some vocal reverb presets that are pretty good imo. It'd be good to start there.
Audacity is good too but if you really want to take it up a notch, Adobe Audition is waaaay better. Plugins are easier to use there and are easier to put in a track.
As for making vocals sound clean, what do you mean? Like removing background noise or are you talking about making them sound clearer or making them blend into the song?
I'm moving this to Recording/Mixing Help btw.

Re: what program does everyone use to edit there vocals?
I dislike Audacity... ;^; I use Mixcraft. I didn't get it for free, but I can't help that. It works really well.~
Re: what program does everyone use to edit there vocals?
I use Garageband. Although maybe I should use other programs as well...
Re: what program does everyone use to edit there vocals?
Currently, Cool Edit Pro 8D Not as professional compared to Adobe Audition, but LOADS simpler to use. (eh, well, it's really just an old version of Audition anyway so =w=). I got it from a friend, but it's no longer liscenced, so I guess you could torrent download it or something. OTL
Also, Audacity's pretty good for beginners o: (I'm pretty sure majority of us started out with it.) It's effects are just extremely mediocre though. (=u=)

Adobe Audition 3.0. Got it via .. I'd rather not say LOL (the link was on .. youtube but it got removed)
It is really useful, but it gets really complicated at times since it is a professional voice mixing and editting program afterall.
Audacity is a better start for beginners! ^__^

Re: what program does everyone use to edit there vocals?
I'm a newbie so I use Audacity too.
It's actually good because I can just CHARGE into it instead of having to instructions. ; w ;

Re: what program does everyone use to edit there vocals?
Audacity is the basic programm and it works -sometimes- !
I use Samplitude.

Re: what program does everyone use to edit there vocals?
I'm stuck with GarageBand... D: -is a Mac user-
It's pretty good (not that I have anything to compare it to!). You can adjust mic sensitivity inside the program, apply some of MANY effects (and customize each one using about a billion different sliders), and err... Lots of other things? xD It gets pretty complicated customizing the effects, so I tend not to change them...

Re: what program does everyone use to edit there vocals?
I envy all who have a Mac and Garageband... <--the only reason why I want a Macbook - the built-in mic and Garageband work WAY better than my $70 mic and XLR-to-USB converter. TT^TT
Okay, yeah, so, as you can see, I don't have a... standard plug-in system for a "pro" mic. I don't have the money for a sound box ($200?!) so I got a $45 (at the time) Blue Icicle to plug in my mic.
As for the program itself, I USED to use Audacity, but it didn't give me the options I needed to record. Then I found my old copy of MAGIX Music Studio 10 deLuxe from when I was in... middle school? (graduating high school now) It's out-of-date and needs A LOT of improvements, but it's WAY better than Audacity, but it's a bit more complex to use, since it's a professional program.
My dream would be to have a sound box and a more up-to-date program, because MAGIX has a tendency to bug-up a lot... @.@;; (it made the end of my boyfriend's valentines present go all jumpy!! (Miracle Paint cover)) That, and autotune. @.@;;;

Audacity, both the stable and beta..
Gonna switch over to Cool Edit 2 soon.
Maybe something newer when I get the hang of it.
Cakewalk sounds yummy~
