Kinda surprised I haven't seen a single mention of this so I will say it.

Normally, when romanizing, you'll come to some words with double consonant. When this is the case, I've noticed the vowel before is doubled.

And the vowels are flat.
This is for pronouncing vowels in Spanish, but they are pronounced the same way in Japanese

Hope that helps~

Ah, I just want to add about L/R...

Most of the time the l/r isn't really pronounced "L" or "RRRRRRRR", it's just like a mix of mild 'd' (not too forceful) and a little bit of 'r'. Like when you're about to do a rolling R but stop right after you touch the ceiling of the mouth(??? pardon language oTL).

Except for some cases when there is variation in singing.

L/R~ is up to you.. but i use L alot. like RA to LA

and.. the SHI, dont use the example SH*T. its isnt nice on singing.. just go sharp when you say SHI.
(or simply SI)

TSU sounds like ZU but with S. make sure you got this well..

maybe that's all i think. ??

They may not be the best video lessons out there, but they'll generally help w/ pronunciation should you have any troubles.

.@tsuki
Ah, yeah. The L/R thing depends on singing variation. XD
The 'regular' pronunciation I mentioned is more to regular speaking and therefore "regular singing"...
Okay what am I talking about nvm ;__;

Ah, about tsu, there are times when the 'T' is pronounced as well, although not much stress is put.

@Cherysh
Thanks for sharing! =D

I think lyric pronunciation is learned as you listen more to Japanese songs or how they speak in general. It basically gives you an idea when to pronounce it like 'this' or 'that'... There is no fixed way to say a certain syllable, especially in singing.

If you're singing a certain song and having trouble with pronunciation, try to listen to how the singer says it in the original song, and try listen to covers of the same song. You'll get the hang of it eventually. `・ヮ・´

@*あず yeah.. i think.
but well.. i use the "la" most of the time.
i dont know how i pronouce my tsu. but depends on how i talk in it... hahahaha...

---------------------------------------------------------------------

just thought of it..
i got the variation "T".
it sounds like.. "THA" but the "H" sound isnt soo obvious~
so if you heard my latest kimi no taion. you might hear the "THA" instead of "TA".
say "FU" as in blowing? "HU" but try the "F" more instead of "H".

haha... almost learnt every pronunciation from amu~

ah, i also need help with japanese pronounciation. but i'm korean, which helps quite a bit ^^ like with the R/L sound:

when you pronounce L your tongue starts near the front of your mouth (against the back of your teeth, pretty much)

when you pronounce R your tongue starts curved, towards the back of your mouth.

so when you try to do the R/L sound it's like rolling your tongue (like an R) but starting more towards the front part of your mouth.

not sure if that was too helpful lol OTL
