What's in a name?
Hello everyone! I'm sure very little of us here actually use our real names, whether as a username or alias, so I was just wondering: how did you get your name?
For me, my username (ramenaddict22) was a result of a childhood of Naruto. 22 was just a random number I added because the first time I tried to create the user name ramenaddict, it was already taken. As for my alias (exe), it's in memory of the very first anime/manga I've ever watched/read: Rockman.EXE, or Megaman Battle Network as it is more popularly known.

Re: What's in a name?
I got my name from a character in a story I was writing a long time ago. He's actually a male character (aether -> angel -> got Aerlith from it), so I don't know if I can actually go back to that story and seriously write it anymore, haha. I used a longer and more feminine version (aerliyana) of the name for a while as a username, but it felt too long, so I went to the character's actual name, Aerlith, when I started covering/writing again.
Run-on sentences, what. xD

Re: What's in a name?
so in the end it was still an original name you made for yourself ;P
i was going to make something that was a mashup of words so that it'd be unique enough i wouldn't have to add numbers to it to use it a username, but i'm too bad with names...

Re: What's in a name?
Oh boy. My username has quite the history.
Except not really. See, there was one point in my life when I actually had a life and had friends and such. I was like, 7 at the time. This one friend of mine came over and was like, "Hey, let's download Maplestory on your computer so you can play with me!" And then I was all like, "K". So we downloaded Maplestory. I made an account. He helped me make my first character. He named my character for some reason. Legulus390r. I don't know how he came up with that but hey, I'm glad he did. That's how I decided to use Legulus , Legulus360, Legulus390r, etc. for my common usernames.

Re: What's in a name?
^Is that a Free! reference I see there?! Haha!
Shuuki is... well... It's the name I gave to an OC way, way back, and there's a long story that I never got around to writing down behind it.
秋 is autumn, which I rather like; it's got a kind of romantic edge to it. It's usually red "aki," but there are tons of "Aki"s on YT. Also, I'm Chinese, so I decided to go with the on (Chinese) reading "shuu."
記 is something like "chronicle." It's found in 日記 (diary - "day" + "記") and 記憶 (memory - "記" + "think/recall"). Kind of a tough kanji to explain.
Also, it sounds kinda okay in Chinese too, which was important to me because my actual name sounds lame. .___.|||

Re: What's in a name?
Mine's really boring. I use the name sonic-nancy-fan on everything. I'm a fan of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, (not Sonic himself, everyone else, especially Shadow) and I am an avid reader of the Nancy Drew stories. Fan is self explanatory.XD I go by Joker because I am a huge fan of no Kuni no Alice and my favorite character is Joker~
Re: What's in a name?
@Shuuki: FREEEEEEEEE yessssss :DD
aah, you put so much effort into the meaning of your name! for a while, i was going to name myself kirin (like the mythical creature) for personal reasons, and then i realized the japanese and chinese way of writing is the same, i.e. very complex, so i held off on it xD
@Joker: yoooooooo usernames are never boring. it tells you so much about the person. when i first saw your alias i thought of batman's joker haha

Re: What's in a name?
muabbe was derived from the name of the haircut i currently sport + a nickname given to me by a former friend + a few letters from my last name.
i'm mostly pleased by the fact that it sounds nice and is easy to type and pronounce.

Re: What's in a name?
My Japanese friend's mother couldn't pronounce my name properly and it came out as Kimoi. It was really funny, because little did she know I really am a kimoi(disgusting/creepy) person.
.. "そのキモイさんは女ですか”
Children it is not safe to be with me hurrhurr

Re: What's in a name?
@muabbe: i've seen a lot of people make up their names like that, as in a random mishmash of words, but i've never seem to be able to do it and make something unique :'D
@kimoi: LOLOLOL. did she know what she was calling you, since she's japanese? xD

Re: What's in a name?
My name comes from the time I was around 10 or so, and I didn't have a proper nickname, I just went by my embarassing YT username (I have deleted the account already thank god) and I wanted to something simple and easy people would recognize me from. Anyway, one day I was watching videos and stumbled across a video of a dog. The dog's name was pretty long, but it had the word 'taifuu' in it and I liked it. So I took it. But I was first a bit worried about stealing a dog's name, and since the dog was Japanese, I looked up the word 'taifuu' and found out it actually means something, and I kept it and thought if anyone would accuse me of stealing their dog's name, I could say I found the world by myself lol. And since then, I've been Taifuu.
TL;DR: I took my name from a dog. Yes.

Re: What's in a name?

Re: What's in a name?
I got my name from a comic i made when i was six. i called it Job and Nob and it was about two stick people in different enviroments doing stupid things. I was young and it thought people kicking eachother in the face was funny. then i saw this name on foopets that looked cool to me. i think it went irul3 or something like that. then job and nob came accross my mind then ikikurface was born. though i used Sad puppy before that and i dont use it anymore.
the name made me sound emo or something. =w="

Re: What's in a name?
How I got my name, huh? ewe WELL! One day... I was walking around my house... and I fell... face first into my piano, and the keys that came in contact with my faces were all low keys...
NAH! Jaykay! I don't even have a piano in my house, nor do I know how to play one o3o
Here's the real story! So, my dad first wanted to name me Lolli; Lolli as in loli and not lollipop X33 And before the name Lokki, I went by a name with double K's. So, I switch out the 2 L's in Lolli and replaced it with 2 K's AND WHABAM! Lokki owo
... I'm an idiot...

Re: What's in a name?
I was kind of hoping it'd be the first one, hahaha! The actual reason is still cool though!
Re: What's in a name?
@Lokki: If I had to guess I would've thought it was a reference to the character Loki from the Marvel comics xD
Kaisoumizu was actually a name I came up with for my blog back in my weeaboo days xD I used some English-Japanese dictionary online to find the words for "reflection" and "water" and slapped them together. (thinking back on it, it's pretty silly since I should've at least double-checked with multiple sources to make sure "kaisou" actually meant reflection. I know for sure mizu is the correct romanization of water, though, so at least it's half right xD)
As for Kumoshi, that came later when I was thinking about what to use as a singing alias. One of the characters in my Chinese name is 云, the character for cloud, so I just took the Japanese pronunciation of it ("kumo") and added 子 (has multiple readings, but apparently "shi" is one of them and I think Kumoshi looks better than Kumoko). So there you have it. xD
