Woah it's good to know how ppl think on this subject cuz I'm curious about it too OuO

I guess I'm same as Taifuu, I don't try to hide it, just didn't mention it to anyone else~
Even if I do I don't think any of my friends will care T_T
To be honest I guess that's what brings me to the community, the fact that I have no real life friends who share same interests as me, so I'm never close to them anyways 。・゚・(*ノД`*)・゚・。

My family knows I sing but they won't interfere in anyway cuz....again, they don't really care about anime stuff ._. Even if I show them a chorus they'd probably watch it halfway and walk away lol

That actually reminds me; My friends who share interests with me always leave me out. Like I have this group of friends cps playing vocaloid, nobody asked me if I wanted in. I'm the one who introduced them to it...! =w= Ah well~

Oh God, I knew that I'd have to tell my mum that if I ever wanted to buy a mic. Of course, that spread around the family like a wildfire.

At school, people already knew that I liked Japanese things. But they always related that to 'manga', 'anime', 'hentai' and... yeah, you get the picture. I don't watch anime or read much manga, anyway! Hence I was just like "FRICK!" and whenever anyone asked if I was Japanese (and I'm clearly not), I told them I sang in Japanese. That also spread like a wildfire and now it's commonplace at school. Some teachers even know that I sing.

Though sometimes boys people make a joke about it at school, it's fine. As long as I enjoy what I'm doing, then it's alright. I just play along happily, it's funny sometimes actually! Plus I have lots of people who come to me and say that they like my music, and because I was the shy quiet student, they didn't expect me to sing. (I'm loud now. A lot more open with everyone because I'm more comfortable around them.)

It's nice to read everyone's situations. A bit of advice, I think it's good to have a sort of audacity to show people who you are, as opposed to hiding and keeping it a secret. You have the ability to show people how much character you have and honestly, it makes you seem so much more interesting person, doing all this; because in the end, you are unique, just like everyone else. Express yourself! 8'D

^^ Mmhmm that last part preach it gurl. I used to be really closeted and awkward when anyone asked me if i was into japanese (or just asian in general) culture. I've opened up a lot since then because of everyone i've met through here and i'm more comfortable with myself now!

Just entering high school this year, I have many friends at school who know. A lot of them seems to not care so i didnt find a need to hide, but there's times when random people in the halls yell my name and tells me to tell them my yt (i'M LIKE OFC NO GET OUT LIKE WHO ARE YOU LOL).

When i'm filling out applications or forms involving hobbies, etcetc, i almost always put down "YT uploading" aaaaa and since a lot of my teachers are artistic, i've had to upload videos for the class and so a handful of teachers also know I do this, but other than that, i don't typically mention it at school or in public unless someone asks so i consider this uttity thing as my....

//hannah montana lyfe//

(also it was really interesting reading everyone's answers ohoho keep it coming pls)

Re: (Yo)utaite = Secret Identity?

Post by Riyumi on Tue Jul 22, 2014 6:06 pm

**warning: I write wall of texts. I'll separate it if you only want to read certain parts? BUT...you have been warned!

this is just chit-chat...but uh---guess I'm resurrecting this from the dead (?) it has been about 2 months since the last one if I remember correctly ehehe //shot

The Past:
Spoiler:

As far as singing goes---I LOVE singing--and most people in RL know or have found out easily that I do. For the most part, those who were with me in my elementary/middle school days knew I was a fan of anime/Japanese culture in general. At that time, no one knew I sang anime OP/ED/other songs I found/liked except for my parents and close cousins. It was more apparent that I sang in middle school, though, since I was part of the 6th grade girl's choir.

Back then, I was more shy and didn't volunteer for solos. I was self-conscious. In the crowd, it's much much easier to sing at my full capacity/with no restraints. It's gotten a little easier over the years since I joined my local church choir in 8th grade. I was still nervous as heck when I did solos with two people who are now amongst my closest friends (that are so far apart in age--yet make it seem like I'm hanging around my age group), but doing solos/leading the group isn't as tough. I still sing the louder/comfortably with a crowd, but I have been able to stop looking at my book, make eye contact with the crowd, and even get closer to the mic to be heard when up in the front. I have much more work to be done when I just want to sing in the halls though o///o. I just like letting loose--but for the songs I like...when I know I'm not alone in the halls...my voice becomes super soft and high pitched. It's fine for songs like "Dear" and "Vanilla Salt", but for songs like idk "Imitation Black" where I want to rock out--it's frustrating. I just get too scared of people's judgement.

In general:
Spoiler:

Not a lot of RL people know about my YT/utaite self. I don't hide it--but I don't go around waving it around in people's faces either. If they ask, I'll be honest--it's just I'm embarrassed if they start flailing it around and sharing it with other people *cough* omg MOM. AUNTY. CHRISTINE. YES. YOU THREE. *cough* Mom/Aunty like to share with their clients too...it's like wait...I DON'T KNOW THESE PEOPLE. Yet they know me from all the stories you share! (embarrassing ones too >///>; ). Kohum. I digress. My parents don't mind me being part of the community. Sometimes they worry though. Since I'm prepping for first year of college, they don't want me to focus too much on anime/the community since they know how much I love it and would cast sleep/rush through responsibilities to get a chance to participate. They worry about my health ^^;;

My parents:
Spoiler:

My dad doesn't mind me covering--he's just ESP. worried about online connections though O3O;; He's the type of dad that likes teasing me, then being strict about education, plays Dynasty Warriors with me (yaaas I love you dad. but why don't you play Rock Band with me too? you only play DW dangit), and also is the type that goes " -insert real name- !!! You have to be careful online! I see that you interact with so many people! THERE ARE A LOT OF BAD PEOPLE OUT THERE THAT PREY ON LITTLE GIRLS LIKE YOU! (well not so little anymore...but people keep thinking you're a middle school-er)... you have to be careful of who you talk to and what you put out there! you're too honest for your own good--but sometimes you don't have to be honest to those people. You're going to feel lonely at points in your life--what with me sleeping in the day/my night shift hours, mom working throughout the day, grandma/grandpa out all the time, and you're about to go to college--- WHAT IF SOME GUY IS TRYING TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF YOU?!? WHAT IF THEY'RE JUST PRETENDING TO BE GIRLS. AND YOU MEET THEM?! I worry for you!!". Note: this is the same dad that went "Don't forget to unplug all your webcams! people can hack nowadays--even with your computer off--what if they see you undressing/dressing in your room. I CAN'T HAVE THAT -blocks webcam with paper/tape- " and also "DATTTTTIIIINGGG SIMS?!? What are you playing those for?! DO YOU WANT TO HAVE A BOYFRIEND OR SOMETHING?!? you know. you should worry about education first. yeah. then you can think about all that later". I told him that it's just 2D and my mom sided with me saying that she has her favorites from Fushigi Yuugi *cough* Tamahome *cough* and other animes but that doesn't mean she wants another husband LOL. I love them so much. He was unconvinced though-- so he says "one day you're going to leave mommy and daddy all by themselves for some guy". and I'm like "do you want me to get a in-the-flesh guy instead of infinite 2D ones?" and he stopped pressing that matter. But whenever I buy it with an iTunes card...he says "again??" hehe. that cutie ^^ Mom just laughs at him now.  AHHH I DIGRESS AGAIN...swerves back on topic in next paragraph...

If you look closely...:
Spoiler:

...you can make connections. If my stalkers on instagram follow my dA  (I post art/places/anime and personal photos), they'll know my real name. If they look hard enough--they will know that I do covers or at least do art for choruses. If they look even harder...they will find my youtube channel. I should probably be more secretive about it though. I don't want them to go finding my facebook and adding me out of the blue when they know my real name though. Even people I've seen before, but never interacted with much--I don't feel comfortable adding. It's like "I've seen you popular people around school--BUT I NEVER TALKED TO YOU. WHO ARE YOU REALLY AND HOW DO YOU KNOW ME?!? WHY ARE YOU ADDING ME?!    O[]O;;  "  Though I guess I'm a contradiction ehehe. I meet online people really easily orz. Like my favorite artist after critiquing her work, and talking to her for 2 years. we met at fanime. For 5 consecutive years now, we keep meeting hehe. Best friend/role model *^* The shortest time I've known someone and actually met them was Aerlith and Kumoshi. Whom I just met recently at fanime after talking to them (no wonder my dad is worried)...but they're really nice people! I wonder what they think though LOL. I come off as super talkative, social, confident, and maybe full of pride(?) idk...online...and when they see me in person it's all like "uhm uh--*humble* nice to meet you ^///^"  ahaha. so I wonder if I appeared different (?). But we had a fun time and seems like we'll be having another play date some time in the future hehe. But yeah---most of the time I try to separate personal/utaite business.

Thanks for reading it all if you did. I personally love the parents BG ahaha. Talking about them makes me laugh/smile ahaha.

Yes please <3 food + adventures are always welcome ^^ (well maybe except seafood ehehe) ;D

Ehehe they are a pretty funny bunch. Well--until they get super serious and go into the lesson teaching/disciplining stuff ahaha. The atmosphere gets kind of tense and scary oAo;;

On another note, I wish my mom didn't flee after giving us orange juice, though. I wouldn't have minded introducing her to you guys ahaha. Most people mistake her for my sister partly because of her appearance, and the other for her personality xD

Anywho--I hope more up youtaites keep the stories coming. Some get really personal, but it's absolutely fun to read/get to know each other this way :3

i love the part about your parents XD  your dad sort of reminds me of my mum - she's super protective too and really paranoid about everything - she thinks rape will happen in just about every situation, even all-girl sleepovers ._.  parents will always be like that (maybe not to that extent though), no matter how old you are, trust me xD

you're not the only one who's super shy irl x.x  i'm the same way.  i think (in my case, anyway) that it's just because it's far easier to just be ourselves and let our true thoughts/personalities shine when online.  i BARELY talk irl unless i feel very comfortable with that person, due to my being extremely shy.  if there's more than one person, then you might mistake me for a mute >___<

i would love to meet fellow youtaite though, even though social situations scare me QwQ

ehehe true. Parents will never stop being parents no matter how old their children are ;D

mmm. yeaah. I suppose it depends on how comfortable you are/how that person/people make you feel (?) The more relaxing and friendly a person is--it's a little easier for me to open up ehehe. In a sense--shy people are like coral. They hide in their shells when a presence is sensed and slowly come back out again if the outside presence doesn't make them timid *^*

If you are close to or within California, or don't mind commuting---I wouldn't mind meeting if we get to know each other  >v<b //shot   But if it's super far---I don't think it may be possible .__.  the closest--if I don't run away would be video chat lol (may have to practice with audio first ehehe)

noentheless--youtaite meetings are awesome <3

i like your coral analogy - it's so accurate in my case xD  my anti-social tendencies kicked in the other day when we had guests over before i had the chance to even get breakfast, so i stayed in my room until they were all gone.......after 6pm.  needless to say, i was just a -little- hungry by that time xD

ahh i live on the east coast D:  so i'm quite a ways away >___<

sometimes i wish that a virtual world existed (similar to accel world, if you've seen it) where you have an avatar and youtaite can just meet up whenever and hang out....maybe in our case, our avatars could be our OCs OwO  there could also be the option to show your true face and body instead of a virtual avatar if you were comfortable enough.

Hehe thanks ^^ I do that for really distant family members though. I've never totally met them, and it's always the "how old are you? What do you do/plan to be?" Types of conversations .__. Very nerve wracking/uncomfortable. I don't even remember my hunger if I distract myself. If it's someone whose presence I enjoy, though, the moment I hear their voices, I dash down. If I HAVE to be there, after introductions and light talk, I go hide in a corner/near people I'm comfy with. Whichever is available xD

Oh that is far QAQ one day if I travel over there to site see/am not on a booked tour, I'll drop by a message and if you're okay with it/it happens to be where you live maybe? Idk. But yeah! I remember accel world! That'd be so cool~ kuroyuki hime (?) had a cool virtual and butterfly form. I ESP LOVE THE PIGLET FORM <3 so cute. But Silver (?) [dont remember the names anymore orz ] was a pretty cool form too~

I'd also have something butterfly related hehe. But I'd go with blues and greens. Real self will have to be only to special people >//^//<. I don't want people finding me on the streets orz

aha nice to know i'm not the only one who likes to hide xD  i remember hiding behind the dining table when my uncle (who i did like, i was just being shy) came to visit, thinking no one would see me >__>  i was very, very young then xD

that would be cool :D  haha i liked the butterfly and silver crow forms too.  instead of the guild battles they had though, we'd have our chorus battles instead 8D

my real self would be reserved for the people close to me too, like my best friends.  i'd be so awkward if someone recognised me irl >___>  and i'd have nowhere to hide xDDD

You're not alone 8D

Good idea! Someone in graphic design/video game programming---there are plenty of rhythm games using arrow keys...so how about vocals instead?

Almost like a karaoke game; where you have to hit the right notes. If rock band/Harmonix people can do it...SO CAN YOU 8D It can be in ANY octave to suit whatever voice range--and if people want to falsetto or be derpy/trolly but still get points. Also, please make an avatar system (with the option to use a picture where you can select pics you want to be the avatar's face i.e. anime or real life if comfortable; or one can stick with the customization options already available). There can be an option for Challenge mode---where you or groups of people can battle each other for the most points--or a vote system on who sounds better (if you toggle the option to allow other people to hear your battle). Of course, each team will have their own separate recording of their voice if they choose to save it. I'm not sure how well the vote system will work--but for sure the point system!

And if it's a group vs group--much like Audition, one will have chances for solos, and then the whole group performs together 8D  And there will be moments for freestyle (aka adlibs...anything can get points in these moments). Or something.

*crazy idea but it's POSSIBLLLE* I just don't know how to do it //shot.

No one irl knows that I post covers... but they all know that I sing XD

I keep my internet life completely separate from my real (mainly because my irl friends would probably call me by my real name which I don't really like so...) and don't really intend to change that.

My family definitely knows about me. Especially my brother, and father (yep). I know that I hadn't ask them for a new mic, but they knew. Yup.

Maybe it's because i like Japanese since I was 5...

Some of my bestfriends called me with "Kaz" name (that's my cyber name tho). I even write my alias in my contact identity (such as LINE) because some of my cyber friends are there. (pfft) Well, my family prefers the me who always sing in the room to the me who spends moneys for nothing.

In my case, no one knows.

I used to do covers under different name years ago, when everything was new to me and people didn't yet call each other "youtaite" yet.
Back then I was quite open about it and I didn't really care that others knew.

Nowdays I haven't told anyone that I started again. I know for a fact that I'm not someone who can actually sing well and I'm fine by it - I'm doing it purely for fun. Therefore I don't see any reason for anyone to know as it's just my personal secret hobby.
=x

Sometimes I do think about telling my sister though, since it would be nice to talk about this stuff every once in a while with someone. But... I guess I'm not ready to reveal it yet.

It’s a secret from mostly everyone I know irl, with the exception of a few of my closest friends and family. Tbh my best friends are pretty into anime and Japanese things so they’re fine with it but still think it’s a little weird that I sing (so I don’t really mention it to them).

My family on the other hand found out because my little brothers know I sing and do dance covers and one day decided to show my parents, who then showed my grandparents/aunts/uncles/cousins ;-;. Though my family is really caring and love that I’m doing this as a hobby (My grandparents even sent my videos to their friends //crais. And my dad and brother offered to do a dance cover with me xD lol) Sometimes they wonder why I go by a different name/nickname and criticize me bc I cover my face.

So my family thinks it’s cool, and my friends think it’s weird (but whatever xD)
