Should I invest in a new microphone?
I'm looking for advice as to whether I should shell out about $100 for a condenser microphone + pop filter. Currently, I am using a headset microphone to record my vocals for my covers. It sounds okay, but the random static and distortion makes it difficult to record with..
I am also wondering if I should get a dynamic microphone instead of a condenser because of the price.. (~$90 for a condenser and ~$40 for a dynamic)
Thank you for your help!

Re: Should I invest in a new microphone?
Hmmm... if you want something cheap and yet is still an upgrade of your headset, you can always buy a simple desktop microphone or else you'll be shelling out the big bucks ($$$$$$)
I don't really recommended using a dynamic mic unless you have a really good soundcard or an audio interface (buying an interface will cost you even more money though). I tried plugging my dynamic mic into the microphone jack in front of my PC and the recording sounded really bad when compared to the recordings I made using my interface.
A condenser would probably be a better deal and would be worth the money. A pop-filter is not a must (simply fixing your mic position or how you sing into the mic should suffice to some extent) but is highly recommended by studio professionals. Also, you have to be aware that condensers are really sensitive, so if you have a really noisy household, it might not be too good as it can pick up background stuff like cars passing by or even a television set. ouo
Hope this helps!

I agree with this. My previous microphone was just a $5 desktop mic (Spyker), which is pretty good quality. Placement is also important for normal desktop mics, as the wrong positioning can cause it to pop or have such annoying puffs. The good sound card is a must ;D

I agree~ I myself just got a usb dynamic mic though, and it's pretty decent. It's recommended you bring a laptop or your workstation to test out mics before investing in one. That way you can find one that suits you ;w;
Good luck!
