So I bought a 3.5mm Male to 6.35mm Female jack adapter for my Audio-technical dynamic microphone. It plugs in to the adapter fine, and the adapter can go into the laptop.

However, when plugged in, the "External Mic" in the Recording Devices is labeled "working", but the Stereo Mix is labeled "Currently unavailable". Because of that, it won't recognize the microphone's speech recognition and record. How do I fix this?
